These beautiful baskets are handwoven in Kenya from local sisal, in naturally dyed earthy colour tones. Available in three sizes to suit a range of different storage needs; the small size is perfect as a desk tidy or for storing cosmetics, whilst the larger sizes are great for clothing, toys or even dry food storage in the kitchen. These baskets also make beautiful woven planters for houseplants (just make sure to add a waterproof liner).
The craftswomen who produce these natural woven baskets all learned to weave sisal from a young age, and practise their craft within a small collective in rural Kenya. The bulk of basket production takes place during Kenya’s dry seasons, since most of these weavers are from farming communities who rely on farming - and therefore, steady rainfall - to feed, support and clothe their families. When farming slows down, weaving work picks up the slack.
